The co-pilot has been identified as Hamam al-Hammami, an Omani national accused of attacking the captain on a flight bound for Tel Aviv. Accounts differ on whether the weapon was a cockpit axe or a knife. He had previously been barred from flying in Oman over concerns about extremist views.
