Why Lufthansa's New Allegris Premium Economy Is The Bigger Win Over Its Legacy Premium Product
The new Allegris cabin has most perks for passengers who like to fly in premium economy.

Duringmy Four Seasons Yacht via Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia adventure, I flew Lufthansa’s Boeing 787 Allegris business class from Austin (AUS) to Frankfurt (FRA). I had an extended layover in Frankfurt before my Turkmenistan Airlines flight to Ashgabat (ASB), so I decided to spend some time in the Lufthansa Welcome Lounge, which is Lufthansa’s arrivals lounge at its hub airport.

For the first sector of my Four Seasons Yacht via Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia adventure, I flew Lufthansa’s Boeing 787-9 Allegris business class on the 9hr25min flight from Austin (AUS) to Frankfurt (FRA).

In 2025, SWISS introduced new cabins for its long haul aircraft (including an all-new first class and business class), in a project that’s known as SWISS Senses. SWISS is part of Lufthansa Group, so these cabins are essentially identical to the new Lufthansa Allegris concept, but with different branding.

In recent times, weve seen many airlines announce their intent to introduce Starlink Wi-Fi. In early 2026, Lufthansa Group revealed plans to roll out this service. There’s now a positive update, as the first aircraft with Starlink will enter service very shortly. However, expect for it to take years before all Lufthansa Group flights are fitted with the service (which the company somehow describes as an ”ambitious project timeline,” perhaps true only in comparison to the Allegris rollout).

When Lufthansa introduced its new Allegris business class, the airline also started charging for seat assignments in business class. The logic was that Allegris offers customers a choice of seating options, and that comes at a cost.

Lufthansa's A350 fleet features the new Allegris premium economy product and is one of the products to watch for this year.

Lufthansa is in the process of rolling out its much anticipated new Allegris business class cabins, and so far, they’re installed on select Airbus A350-900s and Boeing 787-9s, consistently available on some long haul routes.

Sometimes I wonder if Lufthansa is actually trolling the public. As most OMAAT readers are probably aware, the carrier is known for its Allegris business class having five different seating options (I think it was initially seven, but maybe they realized that sounded like too many).

Hello from Germany, as I just flew Lufthansa’s new Boeing 787-9 Allegris business class on the 9hr25min flight from Austin (AUS) to Frankfurt (FRA), kicking off what should be a very fun trip.
AviationNews – Boeing has successfully completed a three-and-a-half-hour maiden test flight of Lufthansa’s very first Boeing 777-9, fully equipped with the definitive Allegris passenger cabin...

Everyone knows the experience of flying low-cost. Every extra comes at a cost, but now Lufthansa is bringing this into its Allegris business class.
